abstract 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane (norflurane) is used as tracer / trace gas for lung function measurement for its ease of detection, physiological safety, environmental compatibility and high availability. Particularly advantageous is the possibility of optical concentration measurement of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane for pulmonary function measurement and especially for FRC determination in ventilation under anesthesia, without cross-sensitivity in the measurement with respect to anesthetics is present.
