abstract | Apparatus for use in effecting surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), as depicted e.g. in Figure 1, comprises first (12) and second (16) containment means, the first containment means containing a known quantity of a reference chemical having an effective SERS factor, and the second containment means containing a SER active medium and being sufficiently transparent, at least one optical access location, to permit both the excitation irradiation of, and also the collection of SER scattered radiation from, a common field of view of the SER active medium. The apparatus may additionally contain a mixing chamber (14) for effecting intimate mixing of the reference chemical with an analyte. The apparatus is designed for precisely reproducible SERS measurements. |
