abstract A method for the production of unsubstituted or nuclear substituted a-chloroalkylpyridyl ketones and/or the hydrochlorides thereof by reacting the corresponding unsubstituted or nuclear substituted alkylpyridyl ketone hydrochlorides with sulfuryl chloride at a reaction temperature of -25 to 70 °C (248 - 343 K) and a pressure of 0.05 0.2 MPa abs, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of a non-branched or branched, unsubstituted C1- C10 alkanic acid or C1- C10 alkanic acid which is monosubstituted or fully substituted with a radical selected from the group consisting of fluorine, chlorine and bromine, whose melting point is lower than the selected reaction temperature.
