titleOfInvention Percutaneous Filter System
abstract The present invention relates to a percutaneous filter system comprising: a guidewire (30); a support wire (10) having a proximal end, a distal end, a distal region, and an expandable filter (22) mounted on the distal region of the support wire, the support wire adapted to receive a percutaneous medical instrument inserted over the support wire and advanced to a region of interest; including a wire guide (26) mounted within the filter or on a distal extension of the support wire which extends beyond the filter; and a sheath which covers the support wire and the filter and is removable from the filter, the sheath having a proximal end, a distal end; and a distal region, the distal region having a lumen within which it carries the filter and an aperture adapted to pass the guidewire, wherein the support wire remains available to direct another endovascular device to the region of interest if the guidewire is no longer available.
