titleOfInvention | Benzene derivative, liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display |
abstract | Conventional compounds exhibiting a negative dielectric constant anisotropy although exhibiting a negative dielectric constant anisotropy of relatively large numeric value are not appropriate in the balance of properties as a liquid crystal material, for example, having a low clear point or a large viscosity. Thus, it is intended to provide a liquid crystal compound not only exhibiting a negative dielectric constant anisotropy but also ensuring excellent property balance including relatively high clear point, relatively low viscosity, appropriate optical anisotropy, excellent compatibility with another liquid crystal compound, etc. There is provided a compound of the formula (1) or (2). In the formulae, each of Ra and Rb is hydrogen or C1-C20 alkyl; each of A1, A11, A12, A2, A21 and A22 is a cyclic group; each of Y, W, Z11, Z12, Z2, Z21 and Z22 is a bond group; and each of j, k, m, n, p and q is 0 or 1 with the proviso that the sum thereof is 1 to 3. |
