abstract The invention aims to provide an organic EL device-forming compound and an organic EL device which can produce light emission at a sufficient luminance, and especially light emission of a long wavelength, present an improved color purity, especially a sufficient color purity to use in full-color displays, and are so durable that satisfactory light emission performance lasts over a long period of time. To this end, the invention provides a compound for use in organic EL devices having a basic skeleton of the formula (1) and an organic EL device comprising the compound. Xn-Y In formula (1), X is a compound of the formula (2) and may be the same or different, Y is a linking group selected from among a single bond, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, and a heterocyclic group, and n is an integer of 2 or 3, with the proviso that a single bond and compounds of the formulae (11) and (12) are excluded when Y bonds X's together in a positional combination of R7 with R7, R8 with R8, or R7 with R8. <CHEM> In formula (2), R1 to R8 and a to d are hydrogen, an alkyl group, an aryl group which may be substituted, an allyl group which may be substituted, a heterocyclic group which may be substituted, an amino group, or an arylamino group which may be substituted.
