abstract The invention relates to a method which can be used to control the expression of heterologous proteins in micro-organisms using an expression system controlled by salicylate or derivatives. The genetic system can be used in attenuated pathogenic bacteria that can be induced once hosted by the eukaryotic cell by concentrations within the pharmacology safety range. The tropism of some bacteria for certain tissues or organs can be used to control the in-situ production of biomolecules for research purposes and as a system for the controlled release of biopharmaceuticals, e.g. in order to control the expression of anti-tumour proteins or antigens.
