titleOfInvention Vitreous humor tamponade and its use
abstract A vitreous tamponade preparation which forms an inert gas after injection into the vitreous cavity of an eye to displace the water portion from the vitreous body of the non-vitrectomized eye, at least one reactant present as a solid particle chemically reacting in the aqueous medium of the eye fluid to form an inert gas and the reactant or reactants is or are encapsulated with a retardantly soluble and biocompatible material in the aqueous medium of the eye fluid. All products involved in the process are biocompatible. A drug which is added as slow drug release can also be encapsulated with the reactant (s).
