titleOfInvention | Cure promoters and methods for vulcanizing elastomers |
abstract | The invention relates to a method for making a cross-linked elastomer which comprises compounding a mixture including a vulcanizable elastomer, a sulfur source, the amount of sulfur ranging from 0.5 to 5% by weight free sulfur based on the total weight of the formulation, and from 0.1 to 6% by weight of a monomeric distillate by-product from the clay-catalyzed dimerization of fatty acids, wherein said distillate by-product contains from 30 to 45% by weight of unsaturated branched-chain isomers having from 16 to 18 carbon atoms and a portion of unsaturated branched-chain isomers having from 20 to 22 carbon atoms, and heating the compounded mixture to a temperature sufficient to cause crosslinking of the elastomer. |
