The formation of the ink receiving layernincludes: coating the support with a first liquid containing a water-soluble resin, ancross-linking agent and a first metal compound, to form a coating layer on thensupport; and applying, to the coating layer, a second liquid containing a secondnmetal compound (1) at the same time as the coating of the first liquid, or (2) beforenthe coating layer formed by coating the first liquid exhibits a decreasing rate ofndrying during drying of the coating layer, to harden the coating layer by cross-linking.
