An aqueous polyester resin dispersion, which comprises a polyester resin (A) having an acid value of 2 to 8 mg-KOH/g and a number average molecular weight of 5,000 or more, a basic compound (B) and water (C), wherein it contains the polyester resin (A) in a content of 1 to 70 mass %, water (C) in a content of 10 mass % or more, and no surfactant; and a method for producing the aqueous polyester resin dispersion through phase conversion emulsification, which comprises effecting the phase conversion emulsification at a temperature of 40°C or lower. The aqueous polyester resin dispersion has a low acid value and a high molecular weight and is excellent in storage stability, and can be used for forming a resin coating film being excellent in coating film characteristics such as adhesion to a substrate, the resistance to water and a solvent, and processability. |
