abstract | The present invention provides a plastic optical fiber, which enablesnthe distributions of refractive indices to be adjusted easily, and anmethod for manufacturing a plastic optical fiber preform (100). Thenplastic optical fiber preform (100) includes a substrate (110) havingnone or more holes (111), and one or more materials (120) provided in thenholes for a refractive index adjustment purpose. The distributions ofnrefractive indices of the optical fiber preform are manipulated bynadjusting the arrangement types, distributions, and the number of holesnformed in the substrate and refractive indices of the materials used fornrefractive index adjustment. A graded-index profile may be obtained byninserting polymer rods into the substrate. |
