abstract |
Pet food is sold in a tub. It comprises a lower layer (1) of a solid foodstuff and a lower layer made up of reconstituted meat flakes (3) embedded in a jelly (2) which is strong enough to support the lower layer when the tub is inverted and the food tipped out. An independent claim is included for a method for making the pet food comprising: (a) preparing meat and animal by-products; (b) heating the product; (c) adding a gelifying agent and other dry material; (d) cutting the meat to a particle size which is not above 2 mm; (e) pouring the product into a heated storage vessel and adjusting its temperature; (f) transferring the product to a filling machine and filling tubs with the base layer; (g) distributing meat flakes over the base layer; (h) covering these with a second portion of liquid phase; (i) sealing the tubs; and (j) sterilizing the product by heating. |
