Leak testing of hermetic enclosures for implantable energy storage devices |
abstract |
Methods for testing the hermeticity of casings fornpower sources intended to power implantable medical devicenby sensing the presence of vapors escaping from annelectrolyte contained therein are described. More broadly, nthe present leak detection methods are applicable to anynsealed enclosure having a first part sealed to a second partnwith a liquid contained therein. The liquid need not occupynthe entire volume of the enclosure, but must contain atnleast one component having a vapor pressure at 25°C of morenthan about 0.1 mm Hg. This component can assist in thenfunctioning of the device such as an electrolyte, or benadded for the sole purpose of leak detection. |
