titleOfInvention | Process for oxidation of organic substrates and catalyst compositions for performing the same |
abstract | A catalyst for the oxidation of organic compounds with peroxide, especially hydrogen peroxide, comprises an organo-rhenium oxide compound obtained by reacting a suitable oxo-rhenium compound with an organylating agent and working up without sublimation, crystallisation or distillation. A method for the oxidation of organic substrates by reaction in a solvent system with a peroxo compound, especially hydrogen peroxide, in presence of an organo-rhenium oxide of formula R aRe bO cL d(I); R : an organic residue; a : 1-6; b : 1-4; c : 1-12; d : 0-4; L : a Lewis base ligand; Re : 5- to 7-valent rhenium. The method uses a catalyst composition (K1) or a composition (K2), (K3) or (K4) derived from (K1). The production of (K1) involves reacting an oxo-rhenium compound of formula ReO mA n(II) with 1-10 organyl equivalents (per mol (II)) of an organylating agent (III) based on lithium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, aluminum or zinc in an aprotic solvent in the presence or absence of a ligand (L). The production of (K2) involves adding a protic reagent to (K1) containing excess (III). The production of (K3) or (K4) involves at least partial removal of solvent and/or inorganic components from (K1) or (K2) respectively, and no sublimation, crystallisation or distillation of (I) is involved in the production of (K1)-(K4): A : anionic leaving group; m : 1, 2 or 3; n : 0, 1, 2 or 3. An independent claim is included for catalyst compositions obtained by the above method, involving: (a) organylation of (II) with 0.5-10 mols RMgHal or RZnHal to give (K1); (b) by decomposition of the excess Grignard reagent with a protic reagent to give (K2); and (c) removal of solvent and/or inorganic material from (K1) or (K2) to give (K3) or (K4), without sublimation, crystallisation or distillation of (I). R : preferably alkyl; Hal : halogen, especially chlorine. |
