abstract The present invention provides a process forndehydrating hydrous sodium β-naphtholate comprising:nthe step of heating the hydrous sodium β-naphtholate or anmixture of the hydrous sodium β-naphtholate and β-naphtholnwhich comprises no more than 0.2 mole of β-naphthol per onenmole of sodium β-naphtholate in a solvent at a temperaturenof 260-300°C under an inert gas. The process makes itnpossible to dehydrate hydrous sodium β-naphtholatenthoroughly in a short time with less production of tarryncomponents.
