titleOfInvention | Functionalized polyurethane |
abstract | The invention relates to a water-dilutable polyurethane, which comprises at least two free OH groups, that can be obtained from a first reaction of a primary and/or secondary alkanolamine with an NCO compound to form an intermediate product followed by adding a cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride to the intermediate product. The NCO compound comprises at least one free NCO group and does not have any block NCO groups. During the first reaction to form the intermediate product, all of the alkanolamine is reacted whereby the nitrogen atom of the alkanolamine reacts with one of the free NCO groups of the prepolymer while forming a urea linkage. The cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride, under decyclization, reacts with the OH group of intermediate product, said OH group originating from the alkanolamine. The invention also relates to the use of this functionalized polyurethane for producing thermosetting coating compositions. |
