abstract |
Production of several metal oxide coated three dimensional powder particle substrates involves: (a) forming reactant mixture of powder particle substrates and metal oxide forming compound; and (b) contacting the mixture at fast reaction and elevated temperature oxidizing reaction conditions in presence of oxidizing agent to form a substrate with a metal oxide coating on at least a portion of the three dimensions and shielded surfaces of the substrate. Production of several metal oxide coated three dimensional powder particle substrates involves: (a) forming reactant mixture of powder particle substrates and metal oxide forming compound; and (b) contacting the mixture at fast reaction and elevated temperature oxidizing reaction conditions in presence of oxidizing agent to form a substrate with a metal oxide coating on at least a portion of the three dimensions and shielded surfaces of the substrate. The fast reaction oxidizing conditions in the zone includes an average particle residence time of less than about one second. The temperature is maintained by a thermal source which does not adversely contribute deleterious contaminants to the metal oxide coating. |
