titleOfInvention TECHNIQUE AND APPARATUS FOR MEASURING THE CONCENTRATION OF A BIOLOGICAL COMPONENT
abstract A biological component concentration (for example, glucose concentration) of a subject is measured by irradiating the skin of the subject with light having a wavelength of near-infrared spectrum, taking out the near-infrared spectrum reflected from the skin of the subject and substituting the near-infrared spectral data for values in a definite calibration formula. A plural number of different calibration formulae respectively corresponding to different groups classified on the basis of skin thickness parameters showing skin thickness of species to which subjects belong are prepared. Then the skin thickness parameter of the subject is determined by a non-invasive method and the group to which the subject belongs is distinguished based on the skin thickness parameter. Next, a calibration formula agreeing with the thus distinguished group is taken so that the biological component concentration of the subject is calculated.
