A proton-conducting electrolyte membrane is disclosed, comprising at least one base material and at least one doping agent which is the reaction product from an at least di-basic inorganic acid with an organic compound, comprising one acid hydroxy group, or the condensation product of said compound with a multi-basic acid. The membrane may be produced by a single-step method, whereby dangerous and toxic materials can be avoided. Subsequent doping of the membrane, for example, in connection with the assembly of the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) is not excluded. The electrolyte membrane has a high and constant mechanical stability and flexibility, excellent chemical and thermal resistance and a high constant conductivity. The membrane can be applied in a fuel cell in a wide temperature range of from, for example, 50 °C to over 200 °C, whereby the fuel cell has a high and constant capacity over the whole temperature range. |
