Circular polarizing plate and liquid crystal display device |
abstract |
A circular polarizer comprises at least anpolarizer and an optical anisotropic element having annoptical retardation of about 1/4 wavelength in anvisible light region, wherein the optical anisotropicnelement comprises at least a 50 µm or less thick liquidncrystal film (A) obtained by fixing a liquid crystalnsubstance exhibiting an optically positive uniaxiality, nin a nematic hybrid orientation with an average tiltnangle of 5 to 35 degrees, formed when the substance isnin a liquid crystal state, thereby providing anfavorable circular polarization characteristics withna decreased thickness. The use of this circularnpolarizer makes it possible to produce a transflectiventype liquid crystal device which is capable ofnproviding bright display images of high contrast andnis less dependent on the viewing angle. |
