Display unit and drive method therefor |
abstract |
An electrochemical display apparatus in whichnsimple matrix driving is realized, whereby apparatusnconstitution can be simplified, and the price of thenapparatus can be lowered. The electrochemical displaynapparatus performs display by use of electrochemicalndeposition/dissolution of a metal. The display apparatusnis driven by a simple matrix driving system, in which andeposition overvoltage at the time of deposition ofnmetallic ions as the metal is used as a threshold in thensimple matrix driving. A driving voltage is set to be notnmore than two times the deposition overvoltage. Thenelectrochemical display apparatus includes transparentnelectrodes and counter electrodes, the display isnperformed by utilizing deposition/dissolution of thenmetal on the transparent electrodes, and the potentialndifference between the metal to be deposited on thentransparent electrodes and the counter electrodes is setnto be less than the deposition overvoltage. Ideally, thensame metal as the metal which is deposited is used fornconstituting the counter electrodes. |
