titleOfInvention An exhaust gas purifying apparatus
abstract The present invention relates to an exhaust gasnpurifying apparatus, for trapping and burning PM, whichncomprises electrodes (14,16) and an insulative honeycombnstructure (10). The apparatus is characterized in that thenelectrodes make an electric field in the honeycombnstructure (10), the electric field not being parallel with thencell passages of the honeycomb structure. Further thenapparatus is characterized in that the electrodes (14,16) make annelectric field in the honeycomb structure, and that thenhoneycomb structure carries at least one metal selectednfrom the group consisting of an alkali metal and annalkali earth metal; a material that generates oxygennradical by conducting an electric current therethrough; anmanganese dioxide; and/or a material having a highndielectric constant.
