A discharge lamp (1) is disclosed, which comprises a discharge vessel (2) sealed in antubular envelope (4). The lamp (1) has a lamp base (5) covering an end part of thenenvelope (4), and fixing means for providing a substantially rigid fixing of thenenvelope (4) to the lamp base (5). The fixing means comprises a metal clamp ring (6),nwhich surrounds a part of the envelope (4) external to the lamp base (5). A meltnplastic lining (7) is provided between the clamp ring (6) and the envelope (4). Thenmelt plastic lining (7) substantially completely fills a space between the envelope (4)nand the clamp ring (6). n A method is also provided for manufacturing a discharge lamp (1) as above. Thenmethod comprises the steps of providing a space between the clamp ring (6) and thenenvelope (4), and providing a hot-melt plastic lining (7) in the space between thenclamp ring (6) and the envelope (4). Subsequently, the plastic lining (7) is melted, andnsubstantially completely fills the space between the clamp ring (6) and the envelopen(4), establishing a tight and stable mechanical connection between the clamp ring (6)nand the envelope (7). |
