A base for a skin external composition comprises, as a main ingredient, an alkylenenoxide derivative represented by the following formula (I):n R 1 O-[(AO) m (EO) n ]-R 2 nwherein AO is an oxyalkylene group having a carbon number of 3 to 4; EO is an oxyethylenengroup; and R 1 and R 2 may be the same or different, and are a hydrocarbon group having ancarbon number of 1 to 4, or a hydrogen atom. The base is a water-soluble base that can exertnboth of the smooth feeling and the moist feeling. |
