titleOfInvention | Control of plant flowering time by regulating the expression of phytochrome c |
abstract | Rice phyC mutants were isolated using a mutant panel isolationnmethod. When the mutants were grown under long-day photoperiodicnconditions, it was found that they flowered (exposed their paniclesn(heads) ) about one week earlier than the control rice. The resultsnindicate that suppression of PHYC gene expression can promote plantnflowering under long-day conditions. Utilization of the PHYC genenfor promoting plant flowering will contribute substantially tonbreed improvement, for example, by facilitating the creation ofnuseful agricultural crops and decorative plants that have a newncharacteristic adaptable for other cultivation areas and times.nThe rice phyC mutants described herein, which promote floweringnunder long-day conditions, will be highly prized as a newnearly-harvest rice cultivar. |
