abstract | The invention provides liquid toner compositions innwhich the polymeric binder is chemically grown in the formnof copolymeric binder particles dispersed in a liquidncarrier. The polymeric binder includes one amphipathicncopolymer comprising one or more S material portions andnone or more D material portions, wherein the D materialnportion has a T g greater than about 55°C. The toners asndescribed herein surprisingly provide compositions thatnare particularly suitable for electrophotographicnprocesses wherein the transfer of the image from thensurface of a photoconductor to an intermediate transfernmaterial or directly to a print medium is carried outnwithout film formation on the photoconductor. n Specifically, the present invention provides a liquidnelectrophotographic toner composition comprising:n a) a liquid carrier having a Kauri-butanol numbernless than 30 mL; and b) a plurality of toner particles dispersed in thenliquid carrier, wherein the toner particlesncomprise polymeric binder comprising at least onenamphipathic copolymer comprising one or more Snmaterial portions and one or more D materialnportions, wherein the D material portion has a Tgngreater than about 55°C, nand a method of making a liquid electrophotographic tonerncomposition comprising steps of: n a) providing a dispersion of amphipathic copolymer inna liquid carrier, wherein said amphipathicncopolymer comprises one or more S materialnportions and one or more D material portions,nwherein the D material portion has a Tg greaternthan about 55°C; and b) mixing the dispersion with one or more ingredientsncomprising at least one visual enhancementnadditive under conditions effective to form anplurality of toner particles, nand a method of electrophotographically forming an imagenon a substrate surface comprising steps of:n a) providing a liquid toner composition asnhereinbefore defined; b) causing an image comprising the toner particlesnin a carrier liquid to be formed on a surface ofna photoconductor; and c) transferring the image from the surface of thenphotoconductor to an intermediate transfernmaterial or directly to a print medium withoutnfilm formation on the photoconductor. |
