abstract |
The present application relates in general to an apparatus (1) and to methods for testing the performance of an automotive catalytic converter (170) under conditions simulating those which occur in motor vehicles over extended driving conditions. The applications provides a novel swirl plate (18) for creating a flow pattern involving the interaction of a number of swirl jets (242). The interaction of the swirl jets (242) creates a swirl flow that collapses and expands, preferably at intervals that are substantially equivalent in length to the inner diameter of a combustion tube (210). The swirl plate (18) and a fuel injector (16) enable the burner to run stoichiometric for extended periods of time. |
