Paper coating slurries for cast coating |
abstract |
The invention relates to paper coating slurries containing a mineral pigment and an aqueous polymer dispersion as binding agent. The invention is characterized in that the polymer dispersion is obtained by performing emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds (monomers) and in that the paper coating slurry is gelled above 35 DEG C, i.e. the viscosity of the paper coating slurry at least doubles at a temperature of between 35 and 60 DEG C in comparison with the viscosity at 30 DEG C. The paper coating slurry is particularly suitable for cast-coating, wherein the coating slurry is gelled during the coating process and the coated paper is brought into contact with a metal cylinder. |
