The invention also provides libraries of butyrylcholinesterase variants as well as libraries of the corresponding nucleic acids encoding butyrylcholinesterase variants. The invention further provides methods of hydrolyzing a cocaine-based butyrylcholinesterase substrate as well as methods of treating a cocaine-induced condition.
