abstract | A composition for the dyeing of keratinic fibres comprises a cationic poly(vinyllactam), a 10 - 14C fatty acid and an oxidative dye. The cationic poly(vinyllactam) polymer comprises (a) a vinyl- or alkylvinyl-lactam and (b) a monomer of structure Ia or Ib : CH2=C(R1)-CO-X-(Y)p-(CH2-CH2-O)m(CH2CH(R2)-O)n-(Y1)q-N(R3R4R5) + Z- or CH2=C(R1)-CO-X-(Y)p-(CH2-CH2-O)m-(CH2-CH(R2)-O)n-(Y1)q-N(R3R4). in which X = O or NR6; R1, R6 = H or 1 - 5C alkyl; R2 = 1 - 4C alkyl; R3, R4, R5 = H, 1 - 30C alkyl or -(Y2)r-(CH2-CH(R7)-O)x-R8 (II); Y, Y1, Y2 = 2 - 16C alkylene; R7 = H, 1 - 4C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl; R8 = H or 1 - 30C alkyl; p, q, r = 0 or 1; m, n = 0 - 100; x = 1 - 100; Z = an organic or mineral anion. - on condition that at least one of substituents R3, R4, R5 or R8 is 9 - 30C alkyl ; if m or n differs from 0, q = 1 ; if m or n are 0 , p or q = 0.
