titleOfInvention | Minimally invasive drug delivery catheter |
abstract | The catheter of the invention is of a design adapted to be implanted, and fixed in place, without the use of a trocar or cannula, such that tissue damage is minimized both at the time of implantation, and later, over the period that the catheter remains implanted. In one embodiment, the catheter may be used to deliver a drug over a prolonged period of time, to a precise location, for instance to treat an inoperative tumor of the brain stem. In another embodiment, the catheter of the invention may be implanted, and maintained in place and used to deliver repeated doses of a drug to the same target over time without the necessity of repeatedly re-implanting a needle through tissue to access the target site. |
