abstract A carbon fiber reinforced base material which has a fabric comprising carbon fiber bundles and a first resin adhered to said fabric, characterized in that the carbon fiber bundle comprises a lot of continuous carbon filaments, has a tensile elastic modulus of 210 GPa or more and a breaking strain energy of 40 MJ/m3 or more, and said fabric has the first resin adhered thereto in an amount of 1 to 20 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of the fabric; a preform prepared by laminating a plurality of sheets of the carbon fiber reinforced base material and forming them in one piece through the first resin; and a composite material prepared by impregnating the preform with a matrix resin, followed by forming.
