abstract | Poly(alkylene oxide) polymers having reduced amounts of formic compounds, e.g., formic acid and salts and esters thereof, are disclosed. The formic compounds are often found in poly(alkylene oxide) polymers which have been irradiated in order to reduce the molecular weight of the polymers. Processes for reducing the amount of the formic compounds from the polymers comprising contacting the polymers with an acid having a Pka lower than that of formic acid are also disclosed. |
