titleOfInvention | Polyvinyl alcohol and method for producing polyvinyl alcohol |
abstract | The invention discloses a polyvinyl alcohol obtainednthrough hydrolysis of a polyvinyl ester that contains silylngroup-having monomer units. The polyvinyl alcohol satisfiesnthe following formulae (I) and (II) and the pH of aqueous 4 %nsolution thereof falls between 4 and 8:n 20 < P x S < 370 n wherein P indicates the viscosity-average degree ofnpolymerization of the polyvinyl alcohol, and S indicates thencontent (mol%) of the silyl group-having monomer units in thenpolyvinyl alcohol,n 0.1/100 ≤ (A - B) / (B) ≤ 50/100 n wherein A indicates the silicon atom content (unit: ppm)nof the polyvinyl alcohol, B indicates the silicon atom contentn(unit: ppm) of the polyvinyl alcohol that has been washed withnsodium hydroxide-containing methanol and then washed throughnSoxhlet extraction with methanol. n The polyvinyl alcohol is characterized in that it maynbe readily dissolved in water to form an aqueous solution thereofneven though an alkali such as sodium hydroxide or an acid isnnot added thereto; its aqueous solution has good viscositynstability; its binding force with inorganic substances is high;nand a film formed of its mixture with an inorganic substancenis excellent in resistance to water. The polyvinyl alcohol nis favorable for coating agents for inkjet recording materialsnand thermal recording materials. |
