Mesoporous carbon and method of making involvesnforming a mixture of a high carbon-yielding carbonnprecursor that when carbonized yields greater than aboutn40% carbon on a cured basis, and an additive that can bencatalyst metal and/or low carbon-yielding carbon precursornthat when carbonized yields no greater than about 40% bynweight carbon on a cured basis. When a catalyst metal isnused, the amount of catalyst metal after the subsequentncarbonization step is no greater than about 1 wt % basednon the carbon. The mixture is cured, and the carbonnprecursors are carbonized and activated to producenmesoporous activated carbon. |
