abstract A honeycomb structure constituted by n   cell partition walls (ribs) which form combined cellsnbeing composed of a plurality of cells adjacent to each other,nand n   a honeycomb outer wall surrounding and holdingnoutermost cells located at the circumference of combinedncells, n   characterized in that cell partition walls and thenhoneycomb outer wall are formed by a bonded texturencontaining silicon carbide (SiC) as an aggregate andncordierite as a binder, and that the proportion (volume %) ofnsilicon carbide (SiC) forming the bonded texture to the totalnof cordierite and silicon carbide (SiC) is 40 to 90%. Thisnhoneycomb structure can exceed required levels, in all ofnthermal conductivity, chemical durability, low thermalnexpansion and mechanical strength, producible at a low cost,nand suitably used in a filter for purification of automobilenexhaust gas, a catalyst carrier, etc.
