The present invention relates to compounds of the formula <CHEM> wherein the two X1 groups are independently selected from H or alkyl of 1 to 6 carbons; the two X2 jointly represent an oxo (=O) or thione (=S) function; W is C(R1)2, whereby R1 is defined as R2, phenyl or naphthyl; R1<*> is methyl, ethyl or n-propyl; R2 is independently H, lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbons or lower fluoroalkyl of 1 to 6 carbons; R3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbons; R8 is a methyl or ethyl group; and R14 is H or alkyl of 1 to 10 carbons, having retinoid-like biological activity. More specifically, the present invention relates to compounds that include a substituted tetrahydroquinoline moiety and a 2,4-pentadienoic acid moiety and have selective activity for retinoid X (RXR) receptors. |
