abstract A biaxially oriented polyester film which hasnexcellent productivity while ensuring a transferred imagenhaving excellent shape reproducibility and gradation and isnparticularly suitable for use as a base film for anheat-sensitive transfer ribbon. This film is formed bynsimultaneous biaxial orientation and contains 0.1 to 2 wt%nof inert inorganic particles having an average particlendiameter of 0.5 to 5 µm. This biaxially oriented polyesternfilm has a value of 0.028 or less obtained by dividing thenheat shrinkage factor (HS) (%) in a longitudinal directionnat 200° C by the F-5 value (N/mm 2 ) (F5) in the longitudinalndirection measured at normal temperature (about 23° C) of thenfilm.
