A polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) having a desirednconfiguration is produced using a raw materialncontaining ω-(4-vinylphenyl)-alkanoic acid and ω-substitutednalkanoic acid in which a group having anring structure selected from phenyl, thienyl, andncyclohexyl structures substitutes therefor on the endnthereof by producing a PHA copolymer containing thencorresponding 3-hydroxy-ω-(4-vinylphenyl)-alkanoatenunit and the corresponding 3-hydroxy-ω-substitutednalkanoate unit by making use of a microorganismncapable of producing the PHA or by oxidizing anpredetermined portion of the corresponding PHA. |
