A catalyst of the invention includes an imide compoundnhaving a N-substituted cyclic imide skeleton represented bynfollowing Formula (I):n nwherein R is a hydroxyl-protecting group. Preferred R is anhydrolyzable protecting group. R may be a group obtained fromnan acid by eliminating an OH group therefrom. Such acids include, nfor example, carboxylic acids, sulfonic acids, carbonic acid, ncarbamic acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acidsnand boric acids. The catalyst may include the imide compoundnand a metallic compound in combination. In the presence of thencatalyst, (A) a compound capable of forming a radical is allowednto react with (B) a radical scavenging compound and therebynyields an addition or substitution reaction product of thencompound (A) and the compound (B) or a derivative thereof. Thisncatalyst can produce an organic compound with a high selectivitynin a high yield as a result of, for example, an addition ornsubstitution reaction under mild conditions. |
