titleOfInvention Keratoprothesis
abstract The invention relates to a keratoprothesis (1), comprising a transparent optical center (2) and a marginal zone (3) surrounding said center. The keratoprothesis is configured as a flexible curved scleral lens from a flexible material and the marginal zone (3) is coated with a covalently bound, biocompatible coating to promote adherence of cell clusters. The marginal zone (3) at least partially consists of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). The side of the transparent optical center (2) facing the eye (6) and/or facing away from it is coated with UV absorbers and/or the optical center (2) contains a UV absorber for preventing ultraviolet radiation from entering the eye (6) and for preventing the formation of radicals in the eye (6). The outer edge of the marginal zone (3), after implantation of the keratoprothesis (1), reaches far behind the zone of the ocular muscle attachments. The marginal zone (3), in the area of the ocular muscles (12), is fixated between the eyeball and the ocular muscles (12) in the range of the equator. The optical center (2) on the side of the marginal zone (3) facing the eye (6) is delimited by a peripheral implantation lip (5). The inventive keratoprothesis (1) allows for an excellent and permanent ingrowth without losing its good mechanical and optical properties.
