titleOfInvention High-pressure discharge lamp and method of fabricating the same
abstract The high-pressure discharge lamp of the presentninvention includes: a discharge chamber (1a) that is formed inna silica glass tube, a pair of electrodes (4,4') that arenarranged with ends opposing each other in the dischargenchamber (1a); metal foil parts (6,6') that are superposed and bondednto the other ends of the electrodes (4,4'), and sealing sections (1b,1b')nfor hermetically sealing the discharge chamber (1a) and whichnare parts for embedding the other ends of the electrodes (4,4')nand the metal foil parts (6,6') in the glass at the two ends ofnthe silica glass tube. The electrodes (4,4') and the metal foilnparts (6,6') are embedded in the glass in a state in which metalncoils (3,3') are wrapped around the vicinities of the junctionsnof the electrodes (4,4') and metal foil parts (6,6'). The ends of thenmetal foil parts (6,6') on the electrode side are further formednas tapered portions (5,5'). In addition, the tips of the taperednportions on the electrode side are positioned, withnrespect to their direction of width (Wc), within the width (D) innthe radial direction of the electrodes (4,4').
