titleOfInvention Laser device
abstract The invention relates to a dental laser device that can be switched between various operating modes, comprising a laser device (1) that can be operated as a laser oscillator or as a laser amplifier. The laser device comprises a laser resonator (8) with a pump unit (12), an active mode coupler (16), an optical loss element (17') that introduces selective losses into the resonator (8), and a laser beam decoupling unit (21). The mode coupler (16) is connected to a control circuit (27) for switching between a CW operating mode for coagulating soft tissue in which the mode coupler (16) is switched off, and two short-pulse operating modes (A, S) in which the control circuit (27) feeds HF signals having the same frequency but different power (P1, P2) to the mode coupler (16) in order to generate laser pulses that have a predetermined duration. One of the two short-pulse operating modes (A) is intended for ablating hard dental tissue, and the other short-pulse operating mode (S) in which the laser radiation has a lower peak power as compared to the first short-pulse operating mode, is intended for surface-sealing hard dental tissue. An output of the control circuit (27) is fed to the controllable optical loss element (17') to control the loss in the resonator (8) during the short-pulse operating modes.
