Electro-rheological composition |
abstract |
In an electro-rheological composition comprising annelectrical insulating medium and solid particles dispersedntherein, insulating solid particles possessed ofnmorphological anisotropy are used as the solid particles. Inna preferred embodiment, the insulating solid particlesnmentioned above are plate-like insulating solid particles, npreferably plate-like insulating solid particles having andiameter (particle diameter) not less than 1 µm, morenpreferably plate-like aluminum oxide particles having andiameter not less than 1 µm. In another preferred embodiment, nthe insulating solid particles which have undergone a surfacentreatment with organic molecules or a semiconductingninorganic material, particularly the insulating solidnparticles having a metal oxide such as tin oxide and titaniumnoxide adhered to the surfaces thereof are used as thenparticles. Still another preferred embodiment is the ERncomposition of which electrical insulating medium is gelled. |
