Intrapulmonary drug delivery within therapeutically relevant inspiratory flow/volume values |
abstract |
A method of drug delivery is disclosed wherein a patient's inspiratory flow ratenand inspiratory volume are simultaneously measured using a portable, hand held, devicenwhich may be electronic and battery powered or mechanical. Information obtained fromnthe measurement is used to release into a patient's inspiratory flow path, particles of anpharmaceutically active drug. The released particles have a particle size in the rang eofnfrom about 0.5 microns to 12 microns. The drug is released when the patient's measuredninspiratory flow rate is in the range of from about 0.10 liters/second to about 2.0nliters/second, and the patient's inspiratory volume is in the range of from about 0.15 litersnto about 0.8 liters. |
