abstract The invention relates to a method for coating an elongate shaped body (8) made of polymeric material, which is provided for guiding light in the form of optical signals. A layer of polymer material with a lower refractive index than the molded body (8) is applied around the molded body (8). To produce the layer, a coating system (A) with at least one chamber (1) is used, to which a halogen-containing gas (4) or gas mixture is fed. The halogen-containing gas (4) or gas mixture is converted into a plasma (6) in the chamber (1) under the action of microwaves (5) and led out of the chamber (1) through a nozzle (7). The shaped body (8) is moved at least once over the entire length in the region of the nozzle (7) or the plasma (6) emerging therefrom along the coating system (A) and is produced with one by the impact of the plasma (6) Layer (9) made of a halogen-containing polymer.
