titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF OPTICALLY ACTIVE ALPHA AMINOIC ACID AND OPTICALLY ACTIVE ALPHA AMINO ACID AMID
abstract A process for efficiently producing an optically active α-amino acid and an optically active α-amino acid amide. After contacting with optionally processed cells capable of hydrolyzing an asymmetric material in an aqueous medium, the water serving as the solvent is replaced by at least one solvent selected from among linear, branched and cyclic alcohols having 3 or more carbon atoms. From the alcoholic solution thus obtained, an optically active α-amino acid is preferentially separated out. To the alcoholic solution containing an optically active α-amino acid amide obtained after separating the optically active α-amino acid, a basic compound (in particular, a potassium compound) is added. Thus, the amide can be purified without being contaminated with the amino acid. The amide is subjected to the following racemization step and thus reused.
