abstract |
The present invention pertains to a method for controlling the foaming of anwaterborne composition or an industrial process by the incorporation of a foamncontrolling agent. The method comprises utilizing as the foam controlling agent ancompound of the formula:n HOR 1 R 3 C-[CH 2 ] n -CR 2 R 4 OH nR 1 and R 2 are independently selected from the group of alkyl radicals having from 3 to 6ncarbon atoms. R 3 and R 4 are independently alkyl radicals having from 1 to 2 carbonnatoms. n is an integer from 1 to 6. The compound generates an initial (t=0 min.) or anfinal (t=10 min.) foamed density at least 30% greater than that of a 0.5 wt% aqueousnsolution of a 12 mole ethoxylate of a C 12 -C 15 primary alcohol (C 12 -C 15 E 12 ) when added atn0.2 wt% to the C 12 -C 15 E 12 solution.
