The present invention relates to cosmetic and pharmaceutical compositions and methods for use of green-light emitting materials. Based on the observed effect of green light on oxygen radical concentration in treated skin cells v. untreated controls, the green-light emitting material can be used as an antioxidant to protect the skin cells against damage caused by oxygen free radicals, as well as protecting the skin against the damaging effects of UV radiation. Examples of green light emitting materials include green phosphorescent or fluorescent materials, such as pigments or minerals. |
